1. What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is over 100 years old, is backed up by a mountain of scientific evidence, numerous government studies and literally millions of satisfied patients all over the world.  Chiropractic is the largest drugless, natural health care system in the world, helping people recover from pain, disability, sickness and disease, and maximizing their health potential. Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by your nervous system. If the nervous system has nerve interference (i.e. subluxation), then pain and malfunction in muscles, nerves, joints, tissues and organs can occur. Chiropractic care removes that interference and allows your body to do what it was designed to do naturally - heal itself without drugs or surgery.

2 key terms to remember in Chiropractic

1. Subluxation- Is a misalignment or a loss of normal movement of a bone or vertebra in your spine. The spinal cord goes from your brain, through the base of your skull down your spinal column to your tail bone with nerve roots exiting out between every vertebra and going to every part of your body. When a vertebra goes out of its normal alignment or gets stuck and loses it's ability to move, this irritates those nerve roots causing pain or dysfunction in the muscle, tissue or organs as well as an imbalance in the normal body processes that can even weaken your overall health. Subluxations can be caused by physical, chemical and emotional stress, trauma, falls, or injury, from a difficult birth, childhood falls, sports injuries, auto accidents or continuous general wear and tear.

2. The Adjustment, is how Chiropractors correct a subluxation. An adjustment involves the gentle and specific application of a force in a precise direction to the spine in order to restore normal joint motion and reposition the vertebra, releasing the pressure and pinching off of your nerves which eliminates your pain, and restores normal function, flexibility, and health. There are many ways to adjust the spine. Adjustments are preformed using the doctor's hands or a specially designed instrument. Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow constant mild pressure. We are highly skilled in delivering a variety of adjusting approaches needed to correct the most difficult case or conditions from one day old babies with birth trauma to 90+ year old at-risk seniors, failed back surgeries or finely-tuned Olympic athletes. There are case histories of people recovering from nearly every known disease and condition under Chiropractic care beyond the typical headaches, migraines, neck and lower back pain, such as heart trouble, hyperactivity, fatigue, allergies, immune deficiencies, infertility and other conditions, all achieved by restoring normal nerve function in the spine.

Chiropractic is a vitalistic method of Health Care and holistic meaning the entire body and lifestyle may be examined and cared for to maximize your health. Diet, posture, exercise, attitude and de-stressing strategies may be used to promote wellness. Chiropractic does not include medications or surgery which means it is non toxic, non poisonous, non invasive and is extraordinarily safe.  Many people have regained their health, eliminated their pain and optimize their life under Chiropractic care.

4. Do I need a medical referral?  No.

No medical referral is needed.

5. Does Chiropractic hurt or is it painful?  No.

No. In our office we use gentle effective techniques which are painless and provide excellent results. We have treated babies as young as a few days old, for birth and forceps trauma, with our gentle techniques. We often see patients in severe pain from accidents, disc problems, pinched nerves and sciatica, etc. with excellent non painful treatments.

6. Is Chiropractic care safe?  Yes, Very Safe.

There are literally hundreds of published scientific and government studies proving Chiropractic's safety and effectiveness. In the words of the New Zealand government's inquiry, chiropractic care is "remarkably safe." Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the result of a conservative approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs. In fact, chiropractic adjustments are safer than back surgery, muscle relaxors and even aspirin.

7. Do you take care Medicare? Yes.

Yes, both Government and Advantage plans.

8. Do Chiropractic help kids too?   Yes.

Since significant spinal trauma can occur at birth (forceps or vaccuum deliveries, c-sections, etc.), many parents have their newborns checked for spinal alignment and the Vertebral Subluxation. Later, as a child develops, learning to walk, riding a bicycle, and other childhood activities and falls can cause spinal misalignments, creating pain and problems. While a bandage and some comforting words can help a skinned knee, the unseen damage to the child’s spine is the unique domain of a Chiropractic Doctor. Many childhood health complaints that are brushed off as "growing pains" can often be traced to the spine. Chiropractic examinations can identify these problems and help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in adults.

Naturally, Chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to a child’s spine. Children enjoy their Chiropractic adjustments and after are less prone to the usual childhood maladies.

Chiropractic has been shown to be helpful with scoliosis and many other so-called "normal" childhood health problems, such as asthma, colic, ear infections, bed-wetting, constipation, and hyperactivity (ADD/ADHD).

Over our combined 40 years of practice we have cared for over 2000 children as young as several days old, for birth trauma and have seen great results in bed wetting, colic, decreased Immune System, ear infections, A.D.D, falls, sport injuries, and even autistic syndromes and other ailments caused by an improperly aligned spine and loss of spinal function, creating abnormal nerve pressure and interference. Pediatric adjustments are gentle and kids enjoy visiting us. If you don’t want your kids on repetitive rounds of prescription drugs and getting unnecessary surgery we would be happy to examine them and provide needed corrective care if necessary. "Kids are worth it and remember "as the twig is bent, so grows the tree." Help grow our children healthier and stronger, that’s a must in today’s environment.

9. Do you take care of Whiplash and Auto Accident Patients?  Yes.

YES-We have tremendous experience in this area having taken care of 1500-2000 auto injured patients; such cases from the minor fender bender, to seriously injured patients with multiple fractures. If you are in an accident consult our office immediately. Studies show 60% of auto accident victims continue to experience symptoms, and residuals even 10 years after their accident. We will file your insurance for you and work with your attorney if you need one.

10. Can I go to a Chiropractor if I am under medical care?  Yes.

Absolutely. Our office works in tandem with the Medical field and works with many specialists and receive many referrals.

11. Can a person who had back/neck surgery see a Chiropractor?  Yes.

Yes. Many people who have had various kinds of spinal surgery often discover a return to their same back problems months or years later. This condition has a special name "Failed Back Surgery Syndrome." These patients can usually receive Chiropractic care without undue worry. We are trained in gentle, non-rotational techniques designed to specifically address the needs of patients who have had previous back surgery and have treated hundreds of patients over the years who have had previous failed back surgeries with good results.

12. Can Chiropractic prevent back/neck surgery?  Yes.

In a majority of cases the answer is a resounding "yes"! Chiropractic adjustments correct many spinal problems that in time would require surgery. Most Chiropractors have cared for many patients who were told they required back surgery or neck surgery but after Chiropractic care, they did not. This has certainly been the case in our office. Government and world class Orthopedic research journals have published many studies confirming this fact. They recommend seeing a Chiropractor first before attempting spinal back surgery because of risk or because Chiropractic is a safe and effective preliminary procedure to surgery.

13. What type of education do Doctors of Chiropractic have?   (8 Years University Education)

Today's Doctor of Chiropractic is strongly educated with a minimum of 7 years of University education. The science of Chiropractic requires a special emphasis on anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, diagnosis, x-ray, spinal adjusting techniques, nutrition and exercise and other related subjects.

Before beginning Chiropractic college, Chiropractic students need to complete 4 years of undergraduate education to obtain the necessary prerequisites and a Bachelors Degree. A Chiropractic student then completes 4 years of graduate school to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Each candidate much then pass both 4 National and State board examinations in order to receive a state license to practice Chiropractic. A Chiropractic education never ends. Doctors of Chiropractic continue to educate themselves by taking postgraduate courses and staying current by reading the latest scientific research. A Doctor of Chiropractic requires over 4,500 classroom hours of health sciences. After graduation state boards require a continuing minimum 20 post graduate hours per year for their annual license renewal.

14. Do you use care plans? Yes. (From 1 Visit to Several Months Time)

Yes. After Consultation to determine what the cause of your problem is we will provide you with options to correct your problem and achieve your health goal. A plan can be as short as 1 visit or several months time depending on the chronicity or length of time the patient has had the problem and the difficulty in correction. There are no set plans for everyone and we always give the patient options and allow them the decision on what they want to do. Our goal is always to correct the cause of the problem so the patient does not have to continue to see us forever unlike pain killing medications like opiods which can be lifelong for chronic pain problems.

15. Can I be too old for a Chiropractic care and adjustments?  No.

More and more people are consulting Chiropractic doctors, especially in their later years. Medicare recognizes this and promotes Chiropractic for patients over 65. With growing concerns about over-medication and the side effects of combining various prescription drugs, safe, natural Chiropractic care is a positive alternative. Restoring better spinal function can help improve mobility, balance strength, vitality, endurance and appetite. Most patients report improvement with arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments often associated with the aging process. The adjusting technique used by your Doctor will be modified for maximum comfort and results. As we get older and wiser, the simplicity and effectiveness of Chiropractic care becomes more and more obvious. Regardless of your age, Chiropractic care can help decrease pain, improve mobility and maintain vitality. Be alive while you are alive!

17. How long does a Chiropractic visit take?  (Roughly 15 minutes)

After the initial consultation and examination which takes approximately 45 minutes, a schedule of care may be established to correct the cause of your problem. Once this has been completed a patient is typically in our office for approximately 15 minutes for the spinal adjustment and treatment.

18. Do you have to go forever?  No.

NO, not any shorter or longer than it takes to reach your health goals whether it’s to get rid of your pain, eliminate a condition, or maximize your health. Please understand healing is a process that takes time and we will tell you the truth up front, as best we can depending on your health goals. Once your body is in alignment and your symptoms have been reduced and the cause of your problem has been addressed, periodic Chiropractic check-ups, like brushing and flossing your teeth, getting regular exercise and eating wholesome foods, is part of a healthy life style.
